Mission Statement

Friends of the RanchLand is a tax exempt educational organization under Internal Revenue Code section 501(c) 3 dedicated to preserving the rural character of Cambria and its coastal environs. We are an educational resource for the public on the value of preserving open space, agricultural lands and the surrounding coastline.

  • Our objectives include becoming informed as to all matters affecting the development of the coastal area and to take action on any project that may adversely affect the balance between development and available resources.
  • We seek to work closely with governmental, community, private and developmental interests whose regulation and activities have an impact on the area.
  • We will work toward establishing a continuing educational program to facilitate the public exchange of information on any issue affecting the harmony of the community and its environment.
  • We will publish timely newsletters of an educational nature each year to distribute to our members and interested parties.
  • The Hearst Ranch Properties located at the southern entrance to Big Sur is a magnificent and irreplaceable piece of the California Coastline.  In order to preserve this national treasure, FRL is opposed to any development on these lands and will work toward seeking 100% preservation through outright purchase or via a conservation easement.
